An existing plastic water filter was reverse-engineered and redesigned as a more durable metal housing with a chrome-like finish.

The project started with a physical sample provided by a client in Switzerland. The original product was carefully disassembled, cut open and measured in detail to understand its internal structure, threads, sealing surfaces, component interfaces and assembly logic.

Based on these measurements, the full product was reconstructed in Autodesk Fusion. The CAD model was then refined for a cleaner external appearance, improved part structure and better manufacturing preparation. Special attention was given to the connection points, filter interface, internal flow path and lever grip, which was redesigned for a more precise and premium user interaction.

The final model combined technical reconstruction with industrial design refinement — turning an existing plastic reference into a metal-ready product concept prepared for validation and production development.

Step-by-Step Prototyping •

Physical prototypes were used to test the pop-out movement, spring behavior, proportions and usability before refining the concept further in CAD.
